Springsteen Raises $160,000 for Wounded Soldiers at Charity Show

Bruce Springsteen raised $160,000 for wounded soldiers by auctioning off his guitar, shirt and harmonica at a charity show in New York on Thursday.

Springsteen performed at the Stand Up for Heroes event at New York’s Beacon Theatre, alongside comics including Ricky Gervais, Kathy Griffin and Jon Stewart, to raise money for charities which aid military families. According to Rolling Stone, Springsteen helped raise even more cash on the night by auctioning off his belongings to the highest bidder, who subsequently gave the guitar to war veteran Andrew Kinard, who lost both his legs in Iraq.

The event raised nearly $400,000 for the Bob Woodruff Foundation and ReMIND.org, in addition to ticket sales.
